The Notion connector uses the Notion Search API to fetch all pages accessible to the connector within your workspace. For subsequent indexing runs, only pages updated since the last indexing attempt are retrieved. Indexing runs every 10 minutes, so any page updates should appear in ASSIST AI within 10 minutes.

Setting Up

Authorization

To connect ASSIST AI to your Notion workspace, you’ll need to create a new integration in Notion, which will provide you with a secret token. These steps are pulled from this Notion guide which you can also follow.

Step 1: Create an Integration

  1. Visit the Integrations Page Go to https://www.notion.com/my-integrations in your browser.
  2. Create a New Integration Click the + New Integration button.
  3. Name the Integration Give the integration a recognizable name, such as “ASSIST AI”.
  4. Set Capabilities Select Read Content as the only capability required for ASSIST AI.
  5. Submit Click Submit to create the integration. On the following page, you’ll find your Notion Integration Token (also referred to as an API key). Copy this token as you’ll need it to configure ASSIST AI. Note that any workspace member can share pages and databases with the integration — admin access is not required.

Step 2: ** Share pages and databases with your integration**

Once the integration is created, you’ll need to grant it access to the relevant Notion pages and databases. By default, integrations don’t have access to any content in your workspace, so you’ll need to share pages manually. To share a page/database with your integration:
  1. Navigate to the Page Open the page or database you want to share in your workspace.
  2. Access the Page Menu Click the ••• icon in the top right corner of the page.
  3. Add Connections Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up and click Add Connections.
  4. Select Your Integration Search for and select the ASSIST AI integration from the Search for connections... menu.
  5. Note About Child Pages
    • If you’ve shared a page, all child pages will also become accessible to ASSIST AI.
    • If you’ve shared a database, all rows and their child pages will also become accessible.

Indexing

  1. Open the Notion Connector Navigate to the Admin Panel in ASSIST AI and select the Notion Connector.
  2. Enter Your Integration Token In Step 1, provide the Integration Token Secret obtained during the Authorization steps above.
  3. Connect and Start Indexing Click Connect to begin. Your Notion content will be pulled into ASSIST AI every 10 minutes.
Note: The Notion connector indexes all content it has been granted access to. If you’d like to limit what gets indexed, simply remove the integration’s access to the relevant pages or databases directly within Notion.
